WIRQ - About

About Us

The WIRQ provides listeners with a new music, alternative radio station, operating at 90.9 FM. Founded in January 1960, this school based, student operated radio station began operation just over 50 years ago. An extracurricular program at West Irondequoit High School, it opens the world of radio broadcasting to those intrested in the field. With about 53 members, accompanied by a student board of ten under the supervision of WIRQ advisor Emily Irvine (more info about that on the staff page), the WIRQ continues to grow through the years as Irondequoit's local alternative station.

Our Goal

Overall, the WIRQ's aims to share the world of radio with the students of West Irondequoit. We teach how to do proper radio shows while correctly managing the equipment, providing a positive enviorment where kids can share musical preferences while getting a grasp on the field of media and broadcasting. To help us in achieving this, just tune into to our station, 90.9 fm, and help support the prospective broadcasters of IHS.
